I believe in solutions and bridging divides. I believe everyone has value, and I believe strongly if we work together we can improve our condition. I speak from experience.
I lived in poverty throughout my twenties and fought the odds after working in fast-food management and moving into an office that provided counseling for youth. At 27, after being encouraged by the therapists and physician I worked with I decided to go to my local community college. I worked a full-time job while my husband struggled to find work and cared for our two young sons. Later, my job gave me an ultimatum: work or school. I chose the latter.
After obtaining two Associates Degrees, one as a Medical Laboratory Technician and the other an AA, I received a job an hour from home in a large and growing clinic. After a year of the drive I received an offer close to home, and was sponsored and received my Limited License in Radiologic Technology. 
A year later I became a Clinic Manager with a large healthcare entity and led change with the transition from quantity to quality measured healthcare. 
After creating a local professional group and becoming involved in Boone County Leadership and the Boone County Resource Council I was recruited by another hospital system. 
As the years progressed I also accepted a position at the local college as an Adjunct Faculty member teaching Phlebotomy, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Terminology, and Introduction to Business. I also moved from healthcare to Human Resources as I had continued my education and obtained my MBA.
I have continued to watch our country struggle prior to the pandemic with extremism, and during the pandemic with isolation. I feel it is time we take action to address the issues that impact us all.
